FRUITION OF FRESH SCIENTISTS
National
science day is celebrated in India on 28th
February each year to mark the discovery of the Raman Effect by the great Indian physicist Sir C. V. Raman. The Physical Research Laboratory(PRL) is a
research institute of national repute which organizes scientific activities on
account of science day as a tribute to PRL founder person Dr. Vikram
Sarabhai .
On this
occasion, the Aruna Lal Scholarships are
awarded to five meritorious students selected based on a screening test,
followed by personal interview by a panel of scientists. The Aruna Lal
foundation was established by Late Prof. Devendra Lal, former Director, PRL, to
encourage high school children to pursue studies in Science and related
subjects. These Scholarships are awarded for a period of two years to 5
students of 11th Standard (Science Stream) subject to their satisfactory
performance in science subjects during higher secondary. This may be extended
to 3rd year in case of those awardees who study in basic sciences after 12th
standard.
The main aphorism
of PRL is to recognize the endowed science students and encourage them for
research work. Every year PRL conducts “Arunalal Scholarship program” in which students of std. 11th science
from all over the Gujarat are invited. Initially they conduct screening tests
at District level.
This year
the screening test was held on 7th Jan. About
1500 students had appeared in this
test out of which 157 students are selected of which 3 are from Bharuch
centre, on the basis of merit.
Shubham Shah, from Amity School
Bharuch is one of the 3 selected students of Bharuch district, who will now appear in the
final level of the test. He will be representing his research at the PRL,
Ahmedabad and will participate in Model/ Poster competition on the theme
“Atmospheric pollution: Causes and Effects” on 24-2-2018.
